Finger Safari

An adventure started with an italian organization called Oikos, Organization for International Kooperation and Solidarity, which works with World’s South communities to meet their needs. Designers went to Tanzania and achived with the Masaai community a souvenir set made only with few tools and without any electricity. The project is still on sale in the country. 

Finger Safari is a leather children`s toy inspired by african animals, especially from Tanzania.

These thimbles are the result of the leather hydroforming technique, made by every animals` wooden template. During the working days in Tanzania, I improved the technique with Masaai people using elastics to fix the leather on the template and finally we sewed traditional coloured beads on the thimble`s side.
